The Yalta Conference was held in February 1945, by Allied leaders Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin. The purpose of this conference was to discuss the imminent defeat and occupation of Germany, and the postwar reorganization of Europe. Meeting in the Ukrainian town of Yalta, the delegates agreed to divide Germany into separate zones that would be occupied independently by the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. They also decided to disband the German military and bring its leaders to trial for crimes against humanity.
